Treatment Rationale

Many conditions can benefit from conservative treatment measures such as rest, anti-infammatory medication, physiotherapy, splintage and steroid injection.  Failing these options, surgery may be required.  We endeavour to  carry out surgical procedures under local anaesthetic were possible although general anaesthesia may be required for more complex procedures.

Procedures

 Tennis/Golfers elbow release

This involves an open incision over the painful area and then partially detaching the tendons involved. With healing it is anticipated that new blood vessels will form and heal the area. Surgery is said to be around 60% effective.

      Cubital tunnel release

This involves releasing the ulnar nerve at the elbow. In affected patients the nerve is compressed in a tight canal called the the cubital tunnel.  With release, symptoms of weakness and numbness are improved.

          Elbow arthroscopy

Elbow arthroscopy involves looking into your elbow with a small camera. This may be indicated for diagnostic purposes when there is no obvious causes for elbow pain or when you have an issue with  reduced movement or locking due to a loose body.

           Elbow replacement

With severe arthritis there may be no other option but to replace your elbow joint. This involves removing your normal  joint and inserting a metal / plastic replacement.  This should improve symptoms of pain and increase your range of movement.
